BOC: P15.3-M luxury vehicle  smuggled into the city

AUTHORITIES confiscated a luxury car which was smuggled into the country by misdeclaring it as spare parts of vehicles at the Sasa port on September 1.

Based on the report of the Bureau of Customs-Port of Davao, the vehicle, a white Porsche 911 GT3 RS, was discovered through an intelligence report from the Sasa Police Station.

The vehicle was valued at P15.3 million.

After receiving the report, lawyer Erastus Sandino Austria, district collector, immediately used an alert order on the shipment.

The agency immediately issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violation of Section 1400 concerning Section 1113 of Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Based on documents, the vehicle arrived at the port from Japan on August 31 and was consigned to JJCTD Import and Export Trading Corp. It was valued at P15.3 million.

When the container was opened, vehicle spare parts were used to conceal the vehicle.

Aside from representatives of the bureau, among the other agencies that were part of the opening of the container was the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency XI whose agents inspected the vehicle for possible illegal substances, but it yielded nothing.

Other agencies included the Seaport Interdiction Unit and the Davao City Police Office.
