‘Blue alert’ for 88th Araw ng Dabaw due to anticipated high turnout of visitors

MEMBERS of the crowd converge on the center of San Pedro St. Saturday, March 18, after witnessing the Araw ng Dabaw Parada Dabawenyo, while waiting for another event on that day. The civic-military parade is just one of the highlights of the annual foundation day celebration this year. Celebrations like this help the city position itself as a top destination for meetings, incentive travel, expositions, and conventions (Mice) as it hosted the Mice Conference early this month. THE CITY Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) activated on Thursday, its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) placing the city under “blue alert” status.

This is for the anticipated high turnout of both locals and visitors to be taking part in the 88th Araw ng Dabaw month-long festivities.

“In line with this, the anticipated increase in public gatherings during the celebration is expected, including activities in public places,” CDRRMO resolution reads.

The Sangguniang Panglungsod passed a resolution activating the EOC on February 27, two days before the event commenced on March 1.

The blue alert status will be adopted throughout the celebration of the founding anniversary from March 1 to 16.

Through the status, CDRRMO will ensure a 24-hour surveillance on weather systems and incidents to protect the safety and security of the visiting public.

This is also to prepare for any untoward incidents that may occur during the entire event that may require immediate emergency medical intervention through proactive disaster preparedness and response and resource augmentation.

“The deployment of emergency resources is meticulously arranged to guarantee a safe, secure celebration and increased public security,” the resolution added.
