The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology cited the help of art organizations for helping female inmates share their talents through exhibits.
Michelle Yan, BJMP Community Relations Service officer, said activities such as the Art Hunt last August gave platforms to these female inmates to showcase their skills and talents.
“We are thankful for this help for our inmates to have an activity that is new to them and it’s a privilege,” Michelle Yan said during the Art Talk, a regular gathering of artists and media held at the RBG, Park Inn Radisson.
In fact, some of the female inmates already sold their works worth a total of P15,000. Because of the success of the activity, they are planning to recruit more as the original batch has dwindled to three. They are now working with six new artists or a total of nine at this time, Yan said.
Next month, the BJMP will hold another exhibit and they are partnering with artists to train the new batch of women who are interested to learn art. She also said that those who were already released from jail have also expressed their interest to continue to participate in art workshops.
