Baste alleges ‘martial law’ tactics, claims family targeted by warrants

MAYOR Sebastian “Baste” Duterte issued a strongly worded statement alleging that the recent events surrounding his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, resembled martial law tactics, especially how his family is being targeted with search warrants.

“What happened to former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte—the manner in which he was taken by the ICC through Interpol and PNP, under the ground command of Major General Nicolas Torre—raises serious concerns about due process and the rule of law,” Mayor Duterte stated.

He criticized the “lack of transparency and apparent disregard for established legal protocols,” warning of a “dangerous precedent.”

He further alleged that “verified information” indicates search warrants have been issued targeting the residences of former President Duterte, himself, and his siblings. “This blatant act of intrusion into our private spaces raises serious concerns about the intent behind these actions,” he said.

While the Police Regional Office XI has denied the existence of these warrants, Mayor Duterte questioned their credibility, citing “inconsistent statements.”

“Our country is going through difficult and uncertain times. The Constitution—our democracy’s foundation—has been put to the test by the very authorities meant to uphold it,” he stated, accusing authorities of using power to silence perceived political enemies.

Mayor Duterte drew parallels between the current situation and Martial Law, urging Filipinos to “remain vigilant” and “defend” their rights. He thanked those who have shown support for his father, stating, “Now more than ever, I will not be silenced.”

“This is not just about the attack against my family—it is about every Filipino who values justice and fairness,” he said. “This is not just a question of legal procedures—it is a grave matter of upholding the integrity of our institutions and safeguarding our nation’s sovereignty.”

He concluded by vowing to continue the “fight” and bring his father “home.”

“We are all doing our best to bring PRRD home—to the country he loves and to the people who have always stood by him,” Mayor Duterte said.

On Thursday evening, Lawyers, barangay officials, and residents held a vigil outside of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s residence in Dona Luisa Subdivision amid rumors of a looming raid by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Earlier, PRO XI spokesperson, Major Catherine Dela Rey, stated, “The report about a raid at FPRRD’s house is fake news.”

On the same evening also, residents conduct a prayer rally in support of former President Rodrigo Duterte amid rumors of an impending search warrant to be served at the family’s house.

As of this writing, social media is rife with rumors of a potential PNP raid on the Duterte family’s residences. This has prompted individuals to gather and guard the Duterte homes. In an interview with the media, Former Maranao deputy mayor Randy Usman says they will stand vigil 24/7 outside of Duterte’s residence in Doña Luisa.
