Basic Law and Principles Affecting the Barangay revised to assist officials

VICE MAYOR Atty. J. Melchor Quitain Jr. launched a revision and second edition of Compilation of Basic Law and Principles Affecting the Barangay (Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the Barangay) for effective implementation at the barangay level.

The 2024 edition includes a discussion on the role of the barangay council, conflict resolution procedures, local ordinance implementation, and frequently asked questions concerning barangays.

“In line with the Barangay Empowerment projects of the City of Davao, this ‘compilation’ aims to guide barangay officials to perform their duties effectively by providing them basic information on the topics,” the press release reads.

The compilation serves as a centralized and updated source of information among barangay officials to effectively fulfill duties and responsibilities in respective barangays.

“This 2024 Revised Edition covers the most common problems that every Barangay Official encounters every now and then, and there is no other way to address these but to be familiar and know the law,” it added.

To note, the first edition of the book was published in May 2011 by former 1st District Councilor Atty. Jesus Melchor Quitain Sr., the vice mayor’s father.

The book was a response to the frequent consultation of both elected and appointed barangay officials for legal advice on their problems in the barangay.

This was due to the hopes that the compilation of laws and pertinent issuances related and applicable to the Barangay would contribute to speedy, effective, and efficient barangay governance.

The Office of the Vice Mayor will distribute the book to the 182 barangays together with the Code of Ordinances published by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Davao City when the vice mayor was then a 1st District councilor and chairman of the committee on rules, privileges, and ordinances of the 19th City Council.
