- 3 Chinese light up night sky to welcome Lunar New Year
THREE Chinese nationals will face charges for violating the Firecracker Ordinance in Davao City during the celebration of Chinese New Year after they lit the night sky with pyrotechnics at 12:06 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10.
According to the report of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), a concerned Davaoeño reported the actions of three suspects identified as Timothy Tan, Wang Su, and Thang Su.
The report said they fired up Big Ben Countdown fireworks outside their rented house in Royal Pines Subdivision in Shrine Hills, Matina.
The police said the loud bursts initially sowed fear among neighbors and nearby subdivisions believing they heard gunshots.
The three were still in their house when the Talomo Police Station responded to the incident, the report added.
City Ordinance 060-02 also known as the Firecracker Ban prohibits the possession, use, sale, manufacture, and distribution of pyrotechnic devices.
Under the ordinance, first-time violators will be fined P1,000 or 20 to 30 days imprisonment or both; second-time offenders will be fined P3,000 or one to three months imprisonment or both; and third-time violators will be fined P5,000 or three to six months imprisonment or both.
