MALACAÑANG declared Aug. 16 a special non-working holiday to mark the city’s 39th Kadayawan Festival and Indigenous Peoples Day.
Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, by the authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., signed Proclamation No. 621 on July 2 bearing the official declaration.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Davao be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the proclamation reads.
Kadayawan schedule
The city government unveiled on July 14 the official calendar of activities for this year’s Kadayawan Fest.
The Misa Pasasalamat on July 7 at the San Pedro Cathedral will kick off the festival, while the opening night, Pag-abli sa Kadayawan, will be on Aug. 8, at 3 p.m.
Pananam sa Kadayawan, A Food and Products Fair will be on Magsaysay Park on Aug. 9-18, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. while Pasundayag sa Kadayawan will be in City Hall on Aug. 9-13 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The city will host Gwapa Dabawenya, a fun run for women on Aug. 9, 5 p.m., while the IronKids and Duathlon will be on Aug. 10, 6 a.m. Both will be held in the Coastal Road.
The Ironman 70.3 triathlon will be included in the festival held on Aug. 11, 6 a.m. at the Coastal Road where athletes will compete in a 1.9 km open water swim; 90 km bike ride, and 21.1 km half marathon.
Bantawan Cultural Celebration is on Aug. 13-15, 4-8 p.m. at Magsaysay Park Bantawan Amphitheatre.
On Aug. 15-18, the Kadayawan Expo and Food Trucks Bazaar will be available in Rizal Park from 10 a.m. to 12 midnight.
The Hiyas sa Kadayawan will be held in RMC Petro Gazz Arena on Aug. 16, 4 p.m., while a concert will be simultaneously held in San Pedro Square at 7 p.m.
Dula Kadayawan for the Indigenous People community will be on Aug. 17 in People’s Park from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Kasikas sa Kadayawan is in San Pedro Square from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Pamulak sa Kadayawan will be from Roxas to San Pedro Square on Agust 18, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan showdown & party will be from 5:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
A month-long Agri-Fair will be in Magsaysay Park which will run from Aug. 1-31, open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
