THE 10TH Infantry Division supports and welcomes the grant of amnesty to members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).
Speaking at Wednesday’s AFP-PNP press briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, 10th ID Public Affairs Office chief Major Mark Anthony Tito said the amnesty is “a step towards healing and reconciliation among Filipinos.
“Isa pud ni sa reason ngano dili mag surrender ang active NPA members tungod kay nakita nila pag mu-surrender naa sila kaso makulong japun sila. So, with this amnesty proclamation dako kaayo ni ug tabang and we believe that will achieve everlasting peace na ma persuade nato sila na magbalik sa sabakan sa gobyerno (This is also one of the reasons why active NPA members refuse to surrender for fear of being jailed. So, with this amnesty proclamation, we believe will achieve everlasting peace and persuade them to return to the fold of the government),” the army officer said.
“Diha makita nato ang commitment sa atong government na mahuman na ni ang armadong pakigbisog (There we can see the commitment of our government to end the armed struggle),” he added.
In an interview on Wednesday, Brig Gen Alan Hambala, commander of the 10th Infantry Division, said they are committed to helping former rebels with standing cases so they could return to their normal lives.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. granted amnesty to members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Moro National Liberation Front, the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front, and the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa ng Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade who committed crimes punishable under the Revised Penal Code and Special Laws in the pursuit of their political beliefs.
