APO AGUA, together with Davao City Water District (DCWD) and its partners, installed the automated water system (AWS) for localized weather monitoring and disaster preparedness at the Hectares of Hope, Barangay Cadalian, on Mar 25.
The P600,000 device benefits the Panigan-Tamugan Watershed to strengthen its sustainability in line with its recent approval from the 20th City Council to declare it as a protected area since it is a crucial resource for the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP).
This initiative highlights climate resiliency and technological advancement with a tree planting ceremony to promote sustainable tree growing and watershed management.
Representatives of the DCWD, Department of Environment and Natural Resources X, City Agriculturist Office, FARDECO Agricultural Multipurpose Cooperative, Hectares of Hope Corp., LGUs, and various stakeholders also attended the event.
“My dream has always been to collaborate especially with local government units and government agencies that can help us,” Hectares of Hope Corp. president and CEO Constancio Baes said during the ceremony on Mar 25.
DENR XI assistant regional executive director Victor Billones said the AWS is a valuable tool, particularly as a warning system for residents downstream or near rivers.
“This is where the automated weather station or AWS plays a crucial role in improving climate resilience, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. It is a system that automatically records and transmits weather data without the need of human intervention,” Billones said.
