Six advanced life-support ambulance and two special-care ambulances are expected to be added to Central 911’s motor pool this year.
Currently, the city’s emergency response office has at least 30 ambulances but only 60% are running as others are for repair.
The current number of ambulances can’t cater the need for emergency response vehicles all over the city.
Lyndon Ancajas, training director of Central 911 and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said at Friday’s Connect Science, Health and Wellness Forum at SM Lanang Premier that the documents are already being processed for the purchase of the additional vehicles.
Ancajas said they are hoping that the six advanced life-support ambulances will arrive later this year.
As of now, the Central 911 ambulances are only for basic life-support capacities.
He also added that a Memorandum of Agreement between Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) and Central 911 has been recently approved at the city council to enhance the emergency response especially pre-hospital emergency care among patients.
Part of the MOA includes having advanced medical direction for responders on the ambulances with the help of doctors either on board or giving directions at base.
The addition of emergency response vehicles in the city aims to cater emergency needs of the city, even those in the remote barangays and those barangays with low budget and could not afford ambulances.
