COUNCILOR Luna Acosta warned business establishments of individuals posing as members of the Davao City Police Office and police auxiliary to conduct CCTV inspections in their premises.

During her privilege speech on Tuesday’s regular session, Acosta said these individuals are posing to be inspectors and requiring the business owners to purchase a specific CCTV brand in compliance with the amended CCTV ordinance.

“These individuals reporting to be members of the DCPO have been going around the establishments, claiming that the ordinance requires a specific brand of CCTV to be installed, and that they are selling the same,” she stressed.

However, upon checking with the DCPO, they denied the involvement of any personnel as the office is not directly involved in the implementation of the ordinance.

Acosta clarified that the amended CCTV ordinance does not require a specific brand or unit for compliance with the provisions.

“The ordinance mandates only the minimum technical specifications that should be complied by the covered establishments,” she said.

The specifications can be met by at least eight recognized brands and over 20 specific units from these brands.

Business owners, therefore, can choose the brand and unit to install in their establishments, provided they comply with the minimum technical specifications.

“Neither the city government of Davao, the PSSO, DCPO will ever ask businesses to buy a certain unit or brand of CCTV or obtain the same from any specific supplier,” she stressed.

The Amended CCTV Ordinance was approved in 2023, highlighting the need for law enforcers to immediately access footage from private establishments for higher crime-solving efficiency.
