A hundred houses destroyed in the Toril fire, and three injured

A MASSIVE fire engulfed a residential area in Purok 16, Lubogan, Toril, on Wednesday afternoon, destroying approximately 100 houses and leaving three individuals with minor burn injuries.

The blaze erupted at Carlson in Lubogan at approximately 4:44 p.m. on March 6, prompting the Davao City Fire District to raise a second alarm, according to Fire Senior Inspector Frances Mae Sendrijas, the fire district spokesperson.

“The fire rapidly spread through the residential area, resulting in the total destruction of an estimated 100 homes,” Sendrijas said.

Three residents sustained minor burn injuries during the incident: a 52-year-old woman, a 22-year-old woman, and a 32-year-old man.  The victims were treated at the scene.

Firefighters battled the blaze for over two hours, bringing it under control by 6:40 p.m. and declaring it fully extinguished by 6:50 p.m.

The estimated damage from the fire is placed at P1,042,500, according to the initial assessment.

Approximately 100 families were initially reported to have been affected by the fire.

Meanwhile, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
