Security guard killed in Bangkal shooting

A SECURITY guard was shot to death by unidentified perpetrators on early Sunday morning, April 20, 2025, in Purok 47, San Roque, Bangkal, Davao City.

Davao City Police Office spokesperson Captain Hazel Caballero only identified the victim as Fernando, 59, a security guard assigned to Guardant Security Services Inc. and a resident of SIR New Matina.

According to the report, Central 911 received a call at approximately 1 a.m. regarding a shooting incident, which occurred in front of Caltex Gas Station, Barangay Talomo Proper.

Senior Master Sergeant Zandro Molde and Police Corporal Saim, along with personnel from the Intel and Investigation units, immediately responded to the scene.

A witness told police about hearing several gunbursts around 12:50 a.m.

Upon checking, the witness found Fernando with a gunshot wound to the face while lying on a hammock inside the guard post. The witness then contacted the police.

Another witness, a 53-year-old resident of Davao del Sur, reported seeing a motorcycle driven by an unidentified man, along with a back rider.

The back rider disembarked and fired at the guard post where Fernando was located before both men fled the scene.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team, led by Police Captain Bernadette Cabras, recovered 12 cartridges from a 9mm pistol. The evidence was turned over to the Regional Forensic Unit.

Meanwhile, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) at around 1:51 a.m. by the attending physician.

Elements of the Talomo Police Station, led by Major Genesis P. Oriel, station commander, and Captain Ryan Kenneth T. Ramones, deputy station commander, ordered a hot-pursuit operation for the suspects.
