THE CITY Engineer’s Office (CEO) completed the clearing of a portion of Magsaysay Avenue on March 2 as part of the continued implementation of the underground cabling project.

To note, the project is in partnership with telecommunication and utility companies which started in 2015. Magsaysay Street will be the city’s fourth street to be overhead wire-free once completed.

The clearing of the hardware, consisting of transformers that are attached to the poles, started on February 25.

Davao Light and Power Company began to disconnect the overhead cables and transmission lines to remove the service poles on Sunday.

During the Madayaw Davao episode on Tuesday, Estelita Labor, CEO Wires and Cables (WAC) focal person, said the Magsaysay area is still part of the second phase, including the C.M. Recto and San Pedro Street.

“Due to the length of the street, Magsaysay area will also have two phases to prevent causing hassle for motorists,” Labor said.

Phase 1 of the Magsaysay Avenue cabling starts from the Post Office to Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Office (BFAR), while the second phase is from BFAR to the Unity Archway located at the end of Magsaysay Ave., fronting Magsaysay Park.

Sidewalk street lights were installed in strategic areas to light up establishments affected by the wire removal. The schedule for the next clearing of wires for the second phase of the Magsaysay area cabling is yet to be determined.
