THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) nixed speculations circulating on social media alleging that personnel manning checkpoints now require motorists to open their vehicle trunks.
“All checkpoints conducted by the DCPO are strictly by established protocols. There is no procedure that requires motorists to open their vehicle trunks at checkpoints,” said Captain Hazel Tuazon, DCPO spokesperson.
The social media post, which has been widely shared, warns motorists about a supposed new modus operandi of police officers, claiming that they place illegal drugs in vehicles and then apprehend the unsuspecting owners.
“We urge the public to report any misconduct by DCPO personnel through the proper channels,” Tuazon added. “Filing a blotter report allows for prompt action and investigation into such allegations, ensuring that those who abuse their authority are held accountable.”
Tuazon emphasized that spreading unverified information can have serious consequences and urged the public to be discerning and responsible in sharing information online.
