FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Davaoeños for their support during his tenure as President.
In his message during a recent visit to Paquibato District, he said, “Panahon nga makabalik kaninyo para maghimamat ug magpasalamat sa niaging mga tuig inyong tabang kanako (It’s time I return, meet up, and thank you for all your help),” Duterte said in a teary voice.
“Hugot akong kasing-kasing nakabalik pako. Salamat gyud ko kaninyo. Dili ko mahimong Presidente sa Pilipinas kung dili ninyo ako gisuportahan sukad kaniadto sa pagsugod sa politika (My heart is full that I’m able to return. I won’t become the President if not for your support ever since I started in politics),” he continued.
He said he never dreamt of winning the presidency after being voted as Davao City mayor.
“At least gidaginot nato nga katilaw ta ug Malacañang bisan tuod wala nako maka-lamano ninyo, wala nako maka-gakos. Gusto ta mo-gakson tanan, inigsuon nga gakos (At least, we experienced Malacañang even if I wasn’t able to show respect and hug you. I want to give you all a brotherly embrace),” Duterte said.
Last October, the former President filed his certificate of candidacy seeking reelection as a mayor. His son, Mayor Sebastian Duterte, will slide down to vice mayor while Rep. Paolo Duterte is up for reelection as the First Congressional District representative.
Finally, Vice President Sara Duterte is the second-highest official in the country.
