PERSONNEL of the Sulop Municipal Police Station arrested a father for allegedly assaulting his underaged daughter in Barangay Talas, Sulop, Davao del Sur, at about 11:35 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21.
Major Rosario Aguilar, spokesperson for the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office (DSPPO), identified the suspect only as alias Estoni, 35, married, a laborer, and residing in the same barangay.
Estoni was accused of physically assaulting his 14-year-old daughter, alias Glyze, a senior high school student.
According to the report, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a scythe (lagaraw) during a heated argument, causing injuries to her face and fingers. She was brought to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital in Digos City and later transferred to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.
“Naglalis sila sa anak kay allegedly naa sa abroad ang inahan niya, dili na makig-istorya ang inahan nila sa ilang amahan, mga anak ray ginakontak. Mao to naglalis sila (They argued because their mother overseas was no longer talking to their father and only contacting their children. That’s why they fought),” Aguilar told the media.
The suspect is now in the custody of the Sulop Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and filing of charges.
Captain Ronald Ditan, the station commander, said, “The Sulop police will continue to ensure that perpetrators of child abuse are held accountable and brought to justice,” Ditan said.
