THE ARCHDIOCESE of Davao will mark its 75th year on Nov. 30, 2024, since it became independent from the Archdiocese of Zamboanga in 1949.
During the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps media briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Fr. Ritsche Gamaya, social communications and mass media managing director, said, “All the parochial churches here in Davao were under the Archdiocese of Zamboanga but in 1949, the pope declared us independent,” he said.
He revealed that Dec. 17 was their original anniversary date, but they decided to move it due to the busy schedules of the parishes during the advent and Misa de Gallo.
According to Gamaya, various church activities have already been planned, with a grand thanksgiving mass led by Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown scheduled for Nov. 30.
