- P2.5-M worth of contraband seized in police operation
TWO INDIVIDUALS were arrested in a sting operation around 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, resulting in the confiscation of P2.5 million worth of smuggled cigarettes.
The arrested individuals were identified as Jeson, 35, driver, and resident of Pagatpat St., SIR New Matina, Benza, 31, married, laborer, and resident of Km. 11, Muslim Village, Sasa.
According to Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the operation was conducted at Jomat Bldg., J.P. Laurel Avenue, Barangay Angliongto, Davao City.
Initial investigation revealed that an undercover police officer purchased two “Gold City” cigarette master cases from the suspects in exchange for P26,000 in marked bills.
Upon apprehension, authorities seized an additional 48 assorted cigarette master cases in their possession. The confiscated cigarette master cases have an estimated value of P2,500,000.
The suspects were brought to the City Investigation and Detection Management Unit while the seized items were taken for documentation and proper disposition. They will face a charge for violation of RA 10643 (The Graphic Health Warnings Law) and RA 12022 (The Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act).
Personnel of the Regional Special Operations Group XI and City Special Operations Group XI, led by Lt. Richard Dionisio under the supervision of Major Maynard Pascual (Chief, RSOG 11) and Lt. Col. Stefanio Andrenicus Rabino (Chief, CDEU), apprehended the suspects.
