THE LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) XI issued a stern warning to taxi drivers and operators to comply with the deadline for recalibrating their meters until Nov. 28, 2024.
The agency aims to recalibrate the meters of approximately 5,000 taxi units.
Currently, over 1,100 taxi units have already had their meters recalibrated, which authorizes them to collect the new P50 flag-down rate.
LTFRB XI announced the new P50 flag-down rate for taxis, which started on Monday, Nov. 11.
According to an LTFRB memorandum dated March 18, 2024, taxi units must display an updated flag-down rate sticker on their meters.
In an interview on Tuesday, regional director Nonito Llanos said the change of the down rate from P40 to P50 was a response to the plea of the taxi operators to increase their incomes.
“There was a petition from taxi operators and fuel prices,” he added.
He said taxi operators who have not calibrated their meters and are charging the new flag-down rate will face penalties from the LTFRB-Davao. Students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities will continue to enjoy the 20% discount on fares.
