THE DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XI said they have completed the rehabilitation of the P49 million flood control structure project in Davao City, particularly within the downstream section of the Lasang River.
In a recent report on Nov. 8, Juby Cordon, DPWH XI regional director, said the project was created to protect riverside communities within the city from heavy flooding.
“The rehabilitation activities on the existing revetment structure along the waterway were highly needed to prevent deterioration and provide heightened safety to vulnerable communities, including their properties and essential infrastructure facilities in the area,” Cordon said in a statement.
He said the recently completed rehabilitation project along the critical stretch of the Lasang River, up to the Lasang Bridge, strengthens the riverbank, enhancing its resilience against floods and erosion.
The project, implemented by the DPWH-Davao City’s 3rd District Engineering Office, covers the construction and rehabilitation of a 234.6-lineal-meter concrete wall and steel support. This will help prevent flooding and extend the structure’s life.
The said project was funded under the 2024 Regular Infrastructure Program.
