Fisherman goes missing off Davao Oriental coast

AUTHORITIES launched a search operation for a missing fisherman who disappeared in the waters off San Isidro, Davao Oriental, on Nov. 4, 2024.

The Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental alerted its personnel about the missing fisherman in the vicinity of San Isidro at approximately 7:08 p.m.

The missing individual has been identified as Danny Carmen, a resident of Purok Piña, Barangay La Union, San Isidro. He wore a black shirt and was last seen on an unnamed fishing banca with mint green and orange sails.

Witnesses reported seeing Carmen’s fishing boat washed to the shoreline of Purok Piña around 4:30 p.m., but he was nowhere to be found. His brother, Rolando Carmen, immediately initiated a search-and-rescue operation but had to return around 8 p.m. due to poor sea conditions.

The Coast Guard is closely monitoring weather conditions and staying in contact with residents for any updates. Authorities are now extending a plea to the public, especially those near the coastal areas of San Isidro, to report any sightings or information that would lead to Carmen’s location.

“We appeal to anyone who might have information on Mr. Carmen’s whereabouts to come forward and assist us in locating him. Every piece of information counts, and with the community’s help, we remain hopeful that Mr. Carmen will be found,” the statement said.
