DAVAO FOOD and Wine Festival 2024’s Coffee and Cacao Experience will promote local coffee and cacao products from Oct. 5 to 6 at Ayala Malls Abreeza.
The two-day event will be a collaboration between farmers, chefs, and baristas highlighting their local produce with 30 different booths that are mostly local to be exhibited. Booths and establishments in Davao City such as Malagos Chocolate, Paramount Coffee, Wit’s Sweets & Savouries, and others.
“We are the most prolific growers of these two crops [coffee and cacao] here in the Philippines. And we are partnering with different farmers, establishments, small and big businesses alike who are important to these two crops,” Davao Food and Wine Festival organizer Monica Floirendo-Ugarte said during Wednesday’s Habi at Kape.
Floirenddo-Ugarte highlighted that the Coffee and Cacao Experience will also encourage the local government and farmers to plant more coffee and cacao to further promote Davao Region’s products.
She also acknowledged the current challenges of the coffee and cacao industries with food production being the major issue in the Philippines.
“Sadly, it is still cheaper to import coffee and cacao than to buy locally. I think this is an agricultural issue across the board,” she said.
The Coffee and Cacao Experience is one of Davao Food and Wine Festival 2024’s major events for October aiming to food stamp Davao City as the culinary destination in the world featuring unique events and cuisines.
Activities for the event will include three different competitions, tastings, and talks. Talented chefs around the Philippines using Mindanao products will also be highlighted.
