Novice candidate early bird on day 1 of COC filing

FIRST-TIMER candidate Ramil Fernando Brucal was among the earliest to file his certificate of candidacy (COC) on the first day of filing on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Commission on Election (Comelec) office in Magsaysay Park for the May 12, 2025, National and Local Elections.

Brucal, 54, a resident of Toril here, is an independent candidate and will run for city councilor in the third district.

As a college professor of business, education and law courses at Davao Central College of Toril, he said he is advocating for education and scholarship for the youth.

“Being a college instructor for many years, some of my students did not continue their studies because of financial [lack of] financial support, and no one will help them except for their education,” he said.

He added he will focus on the members of the Indigenous People community as the beneficiaries.

Apart from advocating education, he is also keen on programs to strengthen the implementation of ecological solid waste management.

As of this writing, Brucal is the first and only aspirant who filed their candidacy at the Comelec office.

The filing of the certificate of candidacy runs from Oct. 1-8.
