Mayor Duterte criticizes President Marcos’s leadership, claims aid used as a platform for reelection

MAYOR Sebastian “Baste” Duterte criticized President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos for having no clear platform.

In an episode of “Basta Dabawenyo,” on Sunday, the mayor said the President’s tendency to point fingers and blame the previous administration was proof of the lack of good leadership and planning.

He pointed out that instead of focusing on meaningful progress, the current administration seems to be shifting blame to the past, using government funds for aid programs that highlight their names and faces—even when there’s no calamity.

According to the mayor, instead of taking steps to improve and develop the country, the president is wasting government money on doleouts. Meanwhile, politicians take credit for the government assistance by being present during the distribution even in the absence of calamities.

Previously, Duterte criticized House Speaker Martin Romualdez for handing doleouts in Davao City when the typhoon victims were in Luzon.

“Martin, please come back here next month. If you want, we can give you a round of applause. Come back here. It’s still not enough. The assistance you provided here in Davao is still insufficient. Please return again next month,” the mayor said.

“We’ll applaud you. Since you’re such a big deal. You have money, and your program is very impressive. Come back here next month because we still want more,” Duterte added.

“You’re talking about 1.5 billion. I dare you to bring 2.5 billion next month. Come back here because the people of Davao number 1.9 million,” he continued.

“It would also be a pity if you ran for president in the 2028 elections. We don’t know yet. Come back here. Give us more,” he concluded.

Romualdez led the distribution in line with the Cash Assistance and Rice Distribution (CARD), Integrated Scholarships and Incentives Program for the Youth (ISIP), and the Start-Up, Investments, Business Opportunities and Livelihood (SIBOL).

Some 3,000 individuals belonging to vulnerable sectors, including senior citizens, PWDs, and IPs, received P5,000 and 20 kilos of rice.
