POLICE Regional Office XI director Brigadier General Nicolas D. Torre III on Tuesday said the 3-minute response time is being fine-tuned before it will be implemented in the city.
Torre said they have been training personnel and identifying areas for piloting for the past three weeks.
“We are doing it actually in less than three minutes right now,” he said during his first appearance in the 20th City Council regular session.
Torre added they are constantly coordinating with Public Safety and Security Office head Angel Sumagaysay and the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Office chief Alfredo Baluran.
The response time has been tested previously using CCTV cameras to ensure the police will respond to the area in real-time.
Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus Jr. questioned the timeline of the 3MRT system finalization and Torre said they should be ready in about 2-3 weeks.
The director however said 3MRT will be limited in the downtown areas, considering the travel time alone from the nearest police station to the far-flung areas of the city.
Torre previously implemented the policy when he was the Quezon City Police District commander, and is also planning to replicate it across the entire region after piloting it in Davao City.
The 3MRT, according to Torre will become the norm among police personnel as part of crime prevention and solution strategies. The policy speeds up the response of police authorities to the citizenry, in no more than 3 minutes, especially during times of crime.
