THE CITY Agriculturist Office (CAgrO) recently opened its Agri-Fisheries Trade Fair at Rizal Park on May 28, to celebrate Farmers and Fisherfolks Month.
During the event, James Arly Danac, CAgrO’s Institutional Development Services Division head, said the event honors farmers who play a critical role in ensuring food security.
In honor of the women’s group with over 10,000 members, the first day of the trade will be known as the Rural Improvement Club Day.
A total of 18 booths from different farmers’ associations displayed their products and produce, offering a wide range of products, from fresh fruits and vegetables to products, and some made from cacao and durian.
Danac added that a panel will judge the district booths’ concept, design, and presentation. The best booth will win P10,000, P7,000 to the second, and P5,000 to the third placer. The remaining winners would get a P2,000 consolation award.
On the second day of the fair, the office will collaborate with the nutrition division of the City Health Office to host a training session for those involved in carrying out the city’s nutrition program.
The event will officially culminate on May 30, where the awarding and recognition ceremony of the city’s outstanding farmers will be held.
“I am inviting our residents here in Davao City to visit our culmination week, as we try to showcase the products of our farmers from the agri-fisheries trade fair,” he said.
The four-day celebration will run from May 28 to 31, 2024.
