IN CONNECTION with the Earth Day celebration, the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) partnered with the Raptor Resource Project and explorer.org to live-stream a mated pair living at the National Bird Breeding Sanctuary (NBBS) in Barangay Eden at 9 p.m. on April 22.
PEF believes the live stream helps people worldwide “appreciate why the Philippine Eagle is the country’s national symbol.”
Through the initiative of the Raptor Resource Project, the sanctuary was able to install two high-definition CCTV cameras inside the eagle’s aviary, allowing the non-intrusive monitoring and study of the birds, and providing real-time videos that gave the public a rare and virtual experience of the secret life of the eagle pair.
According to PEF, the Philippine Eagle pair were Ariela and MVP Matatag, adopted by Marketing Co. and PLDT.
John Howe, Raptor Resource Project executive director, said the breeding facility will be a very significant step toward successfully protecting the Philippine Eagle.
“The exciting part about this is that the Filipino people and the world will get to see this amazing eagle,” Howe added.
PEF also said the event would attract more stakeholders and open opportunities to support and protect the national bird, as the organization eyed to expand the upcoming second phase of the NBBS project, in addition to more bird cages.
