AFTER five years, Davao City hosted again the 2024 Davao Regional Athletics Association (DAVRAA) Meet with the theme, “One Theme, One Dream: Shaping Filipino Sports Champion” at the UP-Mindanao Sports Complex on April 1.
The event was attended by local government officials, parents, and school representatives from the different divisions.
A total of 4,940 athletes from provinces and cities competed for the coveted DAVRAA 2024 Champion title.
The highlight of the ceremony was the banner parade of the 11 delegates followed by the Region XI committees.
In his opening speech, Vice Mayor Melchor Quitain Jr. urged DAVRAA technical officials to always ensure the safety of the athletes with the high-temperature index.
“Habang umiinit po ang laban, eh mas mainit po ang ating panahon. Make sure to drink lots of water and stay hydrated,” he said.
Vice President Sara “Inday” Duterte graced the ceremony and commended all the delegates and LGUs for their effort in making the opening a success.
She also reminded the athletes to always honor the spirit of sportsmanship and embody the values of being a true-blooded Davaoeno.
“You are Davaoeños. You are champions. You will fly. You will soar. You will fight, and you will win,” she said.
The weeklong sports meet runs from April 1 – 7.
