DCWD offers water system management to developers

An official of Davao City Water District (DCWD) said the offer for developers to turn over their water service management to the water district still stands.

Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, DCWD spokesperson, said they are already open to managing the water system of housing and condominiums, even before the new service connection application was lifted.

“We wrote a letter to all the developers especially in District 2 areas that we are ready to serve and they can already turn over their water system,” Duhaylungsod said during the AFP-PNP Press Corps, March 6.

Duhaylungsod said only few have coordinated to their office, however, some have not expressed their intent.

“We understand, especially those housing that are already operating, because they have installed their own water system internally, but the offer still stands,” she said.

Those who prefer not to turnover the system management to DCWD, may opt to make the water district a bulk water supplier for the housing through a lone metering service.

However, the official said, the rate is more costly as it falls under commercial category, compared to actual turn over where the service from water district is direct to the individual customers and falls under residential category.

At present, the water district cannot disclose the number of the developers who have already turned over the water system management, however, it will be finalized by March to give leeway to other developers who are complying with the requirements.

Documentation, cost, time of actual modification and adherence to the standard set by the water district for the water system continue to be the challenges of the delay of compliance of these developers.

Non-compliant water systems are advised for rehabilitation before the water district proceeds with the turnover process.

Homeowners in certain subdivisions in District 2 are urged to coordinate with their homeowners association and developers to check their status of their water system.

The water district is eyeing for 15,000 water service connections in 2024 attributed to the lifting of suspension of new water service applications due to the operation of Davao City Bulk Water Supply.

DCWD is considered the biggest water district nationwide with about 246,000 service connections, as of February.
