IN LINE with the 87th Araw ng Dabaw and the recently concluded Arts Month, the Dabawenyo Artist Federation Inc. (DAFI), conducted Art Jam 2024, an art-all-you-can activity to foster creativity and artistry among young children in Davao City.
The art activity was held at The Pavilion of La Herencia on March 2. It was also participated by distinguished public officials such as Department of Tourism XI regional director Tanya Rabat-Tan, and Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Arts and Culture head Councilor Pilar Braga.
Victor Navales, DAFI president, shared that the activity served as an eye-opener for the younger generation to venture more into the art industry.
“This is not only to make them feel good. You see, out of nothing, you create something, and this is for life. What these kids are doing will mark them and last for a lifetime,” Navales said.
The Art Jam 2024 is the first-ever in Davao City where Davaoeños, of all ages, will get to indulge themselves in ten different art stations, or art buffets, to try various art styles such as innovative printmaking, leaf press art, string art, coffee painting, magic painting, impressionist chalk art, Simple Still Life using oil pastels, basic portrait sketching, shadow hand painting, and dot painting.
The event also featured and was assisted by several DAFI art clubs from the whole Davao region, namely Art Pavilion, Art Sanctuary, Artists Initiative International, BaiHinang, Davao Floral Artists Association Inc., Davao Watercolor Society, GAMA, Guhit Pinas-Dava0, La Herencia Davao Art Space, Piguras Contemporary, Pintanao, Tabula Rasa, and TM Artists. .
Navales hoped that the activity would be a yearly event, especially for young ones, as it is also a good opportunity for them to enhance their skills and talents in the art industry.
“We would like to see that Davao someday will be able to produce national artists, the likes of Ang Kiukok, Fernando Amorsolo, Juan Luna, and all those with those young kids who are exposed to art this early in life,” he added.
Over 150 kids joined the event and were able to create and bring ten artworks from ten different stations.
