- Two killed, five injured in separate incidents on Thursday’s heavy rains
A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy was killed while his parents and nine-year-old sister were injured when mud and rocks collapsed on their house in Sitio Kalachuchi, Barangay Salaysay, Marilog District, around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan.18.
Meanwhile, Ernesto Basites Pacinio, 42, was killed from grave injuries, and two others were rushed to the hospital following a landslide in Purok 5, Km. 8, Apeque, Barangay Tigatto, at 8:10 pm on the same day.
Major Nelson Violan Jr., commander of Marilog Police Station, said the heavy rains triggered a mudslide that caused the incident in Barangay Salaysay.
The victim was identified as Jheron Hamaguchi Manay, 7, while his sister Zhyriel Anne Hamaguchi Manay, 9, sustained injury to her face. Their parents, 35-year-old Ryan Manay and 28-year-old Anjaneth Hamaguchi also sustained injuries to their bodies.
According to the report, the community was clouded in darkness due to the power disruption, which also affected the rescue. Their house was also located in the interior portion of the barangay, approximately 19 kilometers away from the Marilog Police Station.
For now, the victims are recovering at the Southern Philippines Medical Center while the boy was brought to Angel Funeral Homes in Calinan.
In Tigatto, Pacinio and another friend Jose Jorame Delatore, 49, were drinking in the house of Roel Olasiman, 51, when the wall suddenly collapsed from the descending mud.
Pacinio was buried alive while the other victims survived and were rushed to the SPMC by the barangay security personnel.
