THE CITY Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) will start distributing cash grants to fire victims in Barangay Tomas Monteverde, Agdao, on Friday, Nov. 24.
CSWDO head Julie Dayaday told the media in a press conference on Thursday, Nov. 16, that they are still finalizing the list to be endorsed to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for issuance of fire incident clearance.
According to Dayaday, house owners with totally damaged houses will receive P20,000, while those with partially damaged houses will get P15,000. As for the rest, the city will give P10,000 for slightly damaged houses, renters and caretakers, and finally, P5,000 for the boarders.
“The budget will depend on the assessment of the social workers on the ground. The city government of Davao under Individuals in crisis situations, naa na tay naka allocate nga budget,” Dayaday said.
As of Thursday, Nov. 16, there are 130 totally damaged houses and nine partially damaged. Out of 139 families affected, 41 are renters, 110 sharers, 20 boarders, and 2 caretakers.
A total of 500 boxes of welfare goods have been brought to the two evacuation centers Barangay Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. covered court, and Leon Garcia Sr. National High School, where 170 evacuees are temporarily settled.
The evacuees as initial assistance received non-food items including modular tents, blankets, towels, storage boxes, kitchen utensils, pots and pans, mats, and mosquito nets. Hygiene kits and medicine were also provided.
The CSWDO stationed a donation drop-off at Rizal Park. Infant milk, baby diapers, and ready-to-eat meals are highly encouraged.
Dayaday further urged Davaoeños to only donate decent clothes that the victims can use. “Hatagan lang nato og dignidad kay nasunugan sila. Hatagan nato silag disente nga mga sinina ug underwears, dili ng gisi-gisi ug lago, kay louy kaayo atong mga evacuees,” she added.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte visited the evacuation centers and talked with the Barangay captain and barangay health workers to check the situation of the fire victims on Nov. 15. He stressed that the government would provide whatever assistance they needed the most.
A total amount of P49 million in damage was reported after a huge fire consumed 200 houses made of light materials, in Barangay Tomas Monteverde in Agdao District at 7:21 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
