NBI joins fray in search for missing house help

THE NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation-South Eastern Mindanao (NBI-Semro) will conduct a motu proprio investigation on the house help of a police major who remains missing until now.

During the AFP-PNP press briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday,  NBI-Semro spokesperson Agent Elias Leaño revealed that the family of Justine Mae Saldua has not filed a formal complaint with their office.

“We will conduct a parallel investigation. I think the NBI [central office] also conducted their own,” he said.

“We are awaiting the direction or the directive coming from the higher office to have certain personalities subjected to a lie detector test (on suspect Major Michael Uyanguren), the first person of interest, since he is the employer of house helper Justine Saldua, who went missing last Aug. 29,” he added.

Leaño assumed that the office of Senator Raffy Tulfo, who first received the complaint from the family, requested NBI’s services for the polygraph test on Uyanguren. He said the former Toril Police Station commander was willing to undergo the procedure to clear his name.

Meanwhile, Captain Hazel Tuazon, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson, said Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Saldua had just concluded its third case conference on the case.

“The SITG Saldua is still doing their best to resolve the case and hoping also to locate the house helper, which is what we are doing for now with CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group), DCPO, and other law enforcement (agencies),” she added.

She also said the family is cooperating with the task group to find Saldua.
