2 separate road crashes injure 37

THIRTY-SEVEN individuals sustained injuries in two separate road incidents in the city on Saturday, July 22.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson, said the latest incident involved a Toyota Avanza and a Mitsubishi Canter refrigerated truck near Hillcrest Subdivision, Carlos P. Garcia Highway, around 7 p.m.

The Toyota Avanza was driven by Peter Paul Calibo, 45, a business developer of Coca-Cola Philippines, while the truck was driven by June Mar Manibad, 39, a resident of Matina Balusong, with passenger Nick Michael Opeña, 21, and a resident of Ilang.

Before the incident, Calibo was supposedly driving in the southbound lane coming from Ma-a while Manibad was in the opposite direction. The truck allegedly encroached on Calibo’s path, causing the collision.

The truck turned upside down due to the impact.

Both drivers sustained physical injuries and were brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) by Central 911 rescuers.

Earlier, 35 passengers, including the driver and aide, also sustained minor injuries after the Rural Transit bus fell into the open creek beside the road at Sitio Lagdik, Barangay Marilog, Marilog District, around 1:10 p.m.

Apparently, bus driver Vallespin Mark Wency Blaco,42, married, a resident of Gastay Bansilan North Corabato, tried to avoid crashing into a truck that encroached its lane upon approaching a curve.

The bus came from Davao City and headed toward Bukidnon. The truck driver, meanwhile, managed to escape without being identified.

Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt by the incident.
