THE BUSINESS sector has called on both the public and private sectors to continue pushing for the development of the Davao Region
Arturo Milan, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry area VP for Mindanao and co-chair of the Regional Development Council XI, said the local business climate continues to improve as the region welcomed new developments and investment pledges.
“In fact, there are new investments coming in already, Monde Nissin is already in Davao. Monde Nissin is the manufacturer of the famous Lucky Me noodles, kaning mga biscuits, so they’re putting a plant in Bunawan. This is entirely for the Mindanao requirement as well as BIMP-EAGA,” Milan said during the Habi at Kape forum on Wednesday
Milan said the mobile taxi booking and dispatching service Grab Taxi is already in Davao, bringing some of the positive developments happening in the city. Townships, as well, are also committed to expanding in Davao City.
“Even ang mga educational institutions nato diri sa Davao, and also those coming from Manila are looking for expansion. Malayan College, I’ve heard that they are looking for areas for expansion of their campus,” Milan added.
He added that the La Salle post graduate studies will also be putting up their institution in the city.
“There’s a lot of things happening diri sa atoang syudad (here in our city), not only here, but the entire Mindanao,” he said.
Milan also stressed that Southern Mindanao is the third fastest-growing region at 8.1% as of 2022, and this is the only time that Mindanao registered lower than the national average, with an average of 7.1% as of July 2023.
He also said the region should not depend on the national government to spur development. Instead, the public and private sectors must work closely to accelerate growth in Davao.
