A FIRE gutted around 40 houses in Punta Dumalag 1, Barangay Matina Aplaya, at about 10 a.m. on Friday, April 21.
According to Senior Fire Office 4 Ramil Gillado, the Davao City Fire District Station spokesperson, the blaze quickly spread to the houses, which were close to each other and made of light materials.
The fire started in the house of Ronald Magpatoc.
Immediately firefighters and volunteers responded to the scene. The fire was already put off by 12:20 p.m.
The initial investigation pointed to children playing with a cigarette lighter as the likely cause of the fire.
Further investigation showed that the cost of damage reached P400,000. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.
Meanwhile, Gillado reminded parents to always look after their kids and avoid leaving anything that can trigger a fire.
