Truck driver, aide yield shabu, gun at Toril checkpoint

LAW ENFORCERS arrested a truck driver and his companion after suspected sachets of illegal drugs, unlicensed firearms, and ammunition were seized from them while passing through the Sirawan checkpoint in Toril on Wednesday at around 8 p.m.

Captain John Louie Dema-ala, the spokesperson of Task Force Davao, identified them as Jovith Y. Galapin, 29, single, a resident of Purok Mangingisda, Barangay Zone 1-A, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental, and Rio S. Galapin, 42, single, a resident of Proper Sta. Teresa, Jordan, Guimaras.

According to the report, the two were on board a green 10-wheeler Fuso wing van truck with plate number NBO 8506 heading toward Davao City when accosted by the authorities.

Intercepted from their possession were a crystalline substance believed to be shabu weighing more or less 0.7 grams with an estimated street value of P11,200, drug paraphernalia, and an unlicensed .38 caliber pistol loaded with five bullets.

Task Force Davao commander Colonel Darren E. Comia commended the troops who made the apprehension for their commitment and dedicated service.

The suspects were turned over to Toril Police Station for filing of appropriate charges.
