7 in 10 Davaoeños either satisfied or very satisfied with PBBM
THE UNIVERSITY of Mindanao Institute of Popular Opinion surveyed Davaoeños to determine their satisfaction rate with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s handling of key issues concerning the economy, agriculture, peace and order, and corruption
The online survey was conducted from February 8-15, 2023, targeting Davaoeños who are 18 to 65 years old. The study relied on targeted sponsored advertisement on Facebook users who matched the predetermined criteria within the defined geographical radius. A total of 1,200 respondents were targeted based on these predefined criteria.

Results revealed that 7 of 10 Davaoeños are either satisfied or very satisfied with how PBBM was handling ICC probe on former President Duterte’s drug war. Davaoeños also responded similarly in terms of the reopening of face-to-face classes 7 out of 10), lifting movement restrictions against COVID-19 (7 out of 10) saying they were satisfied, and his response to calamities and disasters (6 out of 10).
However, Davaoeños were divided in terms of PBBM designating competent officials (5 of 10), addressing the recurrence of the drug problem (5 of 10), rolling out of SIM Registration Act (5 of 10), fostering better relationships with the US (5 of 10) and with China (4 of 10), and foreign trips/junkets (4 of 10), and divided in terms of PBBM addressing the weakening of peso vs dollar (3 of 10), handling of NAIA flight radar mishap (3 of 10), and proposing the Maharlika Investment Fund (3 of 10).
On the other hand, Davaoeños were seen to be most dissatisfied with President Marcos Jr. in the following issues: the shortage of onions (almost 8 of 10), the price increase of sugar (7 of 10), the decreasing rank of the Philippines in global performance in English, Math and Science (5 of 10), graft and corruption in the government (5 of 10), curbing inflation rate (4 of 10), addressing the weakening of the peso against the dollar (4 of 10). This also points to the fact that Davaoeños were highly affected by the high prices of sugar and onions in the last quarter of last year which was felt even in the first two months of 2023. In addition, the two issues with the highest dissatisfaction rating were agricultural issues, which are primary concerns of the President being the concurrent Department of Agriculture secretary.
Finally, when Davaoeños were asked whether it is high time for President Marcos Jr. to find a new Secretary of Agriculture, 70.8% (or 7 out of 10) responded that he should relinquish the portfolio, while only 22.8% (2 0f 10) believed that he is effective in such concurrent duty.
