The city government will still continue to provide free bus rides for employees allowed to work under the general community quarantine (GCQ).
“We will still have free (bus) rides from the City Government of Davao. We will still continue this as long as there is a quarantine,” Mayor Sara Duterte said on Friday.
Under the GCQ, the ban on public transportation was lifted but Duterte reminded jeepney drivers to maintain physical distancing measures to slow down the spread of COVID-19.
“Our jeepneys should have barriers,” she said.
The City Traffic and Transport Management Office already installed physical barriers to ensure a safe distance between commuters.
Meanwhile, taxis and private vehicles will still have to follow the same measures required under the enhanced community quarantine.
“For our private vehicles and taxis — one driver, one passenger in front, (and) one passenger at the back,” Duterte said.
However, back rides for single motorcycles and bicycles are still not allowed under the GCQ.
Passengers taking public transport have to present proof of employment (an ID or certification) or food and medicine (FM) pass to checkpoints or during random inspections by law enforcers.
