A resident of Camiguin went to the Marilog Police Precinct on Tuesday to seek for assistance after he was scammed in buying a gold bar that turned out to be bogus.
Chief Insp. Estrello Ramiso, the commander of Marilog Police Precinct, said the incident happened beyond his area of responsibility but they helped the victim nonetheless.
According to the police chief, the victim was able to purchase one gold bar from alias Karlo of Sinuda, Kitaotao, Bukidnon last Feb. 8 but the victim just reported to him on Tuesday.
“Each gold bar was sold around P200,000, however, the victim just paid first for a downpayment of P50,000,” Ramiso narrated.
“Then after they were able to check the said gold bar it was found out that it was a fake,” he added.
Accordingly, the victim was enticed to buy for a gold bar because Karlo showed them a real one.
The police chief further said that for now they have recovered six fake gold bars since 2017. “Actually we have been receiving many reports then years before about this,” he added.
