Motorcycle driver killed, passenger injured in head-on collision with truck

A MOTORCYCLE driver was killed and his backrider injured after they collided with a prime mover truck in Purok 23, Acacia, along the Davao-Bukidnon Highway, Calinan District, around 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 4.

Captain Hazel Tuazon spokesperson of Davao City Police Office, identified the casualty as Marlon Tagaro Abuno, a resident of Purok 8, Poblacion Libona, Bukidnon, who was then driving a Honda XRM 125.

His backrider was identified only as Angel, single, 18, and a resident of Aplaya, San Juan, Digos City.

The incident involved a Freightliner truck driven by Roland Omandam Maghuyop, 34, married, and a resident of Campo 5, Barangay Talomo River, Calinan District.

Initial investigation showed the truck driver traveling from Calinan Poblacion toward Barangay Riverside, while the motorcycle driver was heading in the opposite direction. Accordingly, the motorcycle encroached on the truck’s lane resulting in the incident.

The female passenger was brought by the Central 911 to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

The motorcycle driver’s body was taken to Angel Funeral Parlor in Calinan while the truck driver was detained as he faced a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injury .
