OVER 8,400 security forces were deployed on Thursday to ensure a safe, orderly, and peaceful 87th Araw ng Dabaw celebration.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte led the send-off ceremony held at Camp Capt. Domingo E. Eleonor along San Pedro Street.
In an interview on the sidelines of the send-off ceremony, Public Safety Security Office (PSSO) chief Angel Sumagaysay said the total security forces already counted the police personnel, force multipliers, and private security.
Sumagaysay said the bulk of the deployment is for the Parada Dabawenyo and the Mutya ng Dabaw.
“Gi-include namo kadtong may mga special mayor’s permit and gi-include namo tong event nga mukabig sila’g mga tao, mao na nga obliged gyud ta nga dugangan ang among mga tao (We also included events with special mayor’s permit and events that will draw a large number of people, which also oblige us to add more personnel),” Sumagaysay added.
He said that PSSO conducted security coordination meetings with the City Tourism Operations Office to prepare for the events. The same security restrictions, such as no backpacks and big bags, no laser lights, no bomb jokes, no firearms, and no littering, will be followed.
Bringing sharp objects, drinking alcoholic beverages, and smoking in public places are also prohibited.
Davaoeños are also advised against bringing infants and small children to crowded events.
The 87th Araw ng Dabaw activities officially opened on Friday, March 1, 2024, also declared an official holiday by Malacañang.
