NEARLY 800 individuals get their anti-COVID jabs in the two rollouts of the mobile vaccination program of the Sangguinang Panlungsod on August 17 in Barangay Sirib, Calinan District and on August 11 in Barangay Los Amigos, Tugbok District.
Councilor Mary Joselle Villafuerte, the chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlugsod Committee on Health, in an interview over the Davao City Disaster Radio on Wednesday said the second rollout covered 500 beneficiaries in Barangay Sirib.
In the first rollout, the mobile vaccination benefitted 283 individuals in Barangay Los Amigos.
Villafuerte said the SP rolled out the mobile vaccination program after Mayor Inday Sara Duterte requested the help of the councilors to form their own vaccination teams. She added that the City Mayor on Monday also approved the project design of mobile vaccination as well as its budget.
“They (councilors) can now visit barangays and schedule the roll-out because the Mayor will support us all the way,” Villafuerte said.
According to Villafuerte, the success of the first and second rollout of the mobile vaccination program is positive. Other councilors are now preparing for vaccination rollouts in their Areas of Responsibility (AOR), some even went to the vaccination site on August 17 to observe.
“Gitunga-tunga ni mayor ang 182 barangays for each councilor and each has an area of responsibility. For me, I have 16 barangays, 10 barangays of Calinan District and 6 barangays of Marilog District. Unahin ko yun, but technically since 82 barangays ang atong ginarepresentar sa konseho we will help other third district councilors rollout with their vaccines (The Mayor divided the 182 barangays for each councilor, so each has an area of responsibility. For me, I have 16 barangays, 10 barangays of Calinan District and 6 barangays of Marilog District. I will prioritize that but technically since we represent 82 barangays in the council, we will help other third district councilors rollout their vaccines),” Villafuerte said.
She added that the medical team which helped the first two vaccination rollout could be tapped by the other councilors as well.
Villafuerte is now requesting the help of barangays for the proper cooperation for the mobile vaccination primarily in the listing of people qualified for the vaccine. Per her experience, there was a delay in the rollout because the list of barangays included senior citizens who are already deceased or already vaccinated.
She encouraged the barangays to support this endeavor because their proper cooperation gives the vaccination teams an upper hand to make each vaccination activity a success.
Villafuerte said they are determined to help the city government to reach herd immunity.
“Gihatagan mi challenge ni mayor na gusto niya ramp up 20,000 doses administered daily. She wants us to meet the goal by November para sa first dose, we are going to help her in this effort (We were challenged by the mayor, she wants to ramp up the vaccination up to 20,000 doses administered daily. She wants us to meet the goal by November for the first dose, we are going to help her with this effort),” Villafuerte said.
