Cebu City – Rancho Palos Verdes-1 got itself on a hot start scoring 109 points in the Aviators Class of the 72nd Philippine Airlines Interclub Men’s Regular competition, Wednesday played at the Cebu Country Club, here.
Their initial day total came in second, three points behind leader Club Filipino Inc. de Cebu who had 112 points while Villamor Air Base is at third with 106.
Team captain Roderick Lo led the charge for Palos-1 with 30 points on a six-over 78 noting two birdies and capped himself with nine pars. Teammate EJ Casintahan backed him up with 29 points while Leo Yap and Ronald Galicia added 26 and 24, respectively. Jong Tan’s 16 did not count.
Yet to see action for Palos-1 are Christopher Tan, Jose Addy Briones, Jorge Martinez, Jean Paul Marfori and Leo Magno.
Sister team Rancho Palos Verdes-2 stands at 16th place with 80 points with scores coming from Ludwig Ledesma and Jessie Tan having similar 23s while Alejandro So and Oscar Rebosura had18 and 16 points, in that order. Vincent Benjamin Valdellon only had 14 points. Other players for Palos-2 were Jerico Bajo, Brian Davila, Regino Capa, Wendel Adlao and Jaime Tan Sr.
“It’s still the first day, anything can happen. We hope each day our team will improve in the standings,” Rancho Palos Verdes general manager Tommy Inigo said.
Some 19 teams are seeing action in the Aviators Class which shifts its second day of action today at the Mactan Golf and Country Club.
Other teams seeing action are Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, Iloilo Golf and Country Club, Eagle Ridge, Sta Elena, Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, Manila Golf, Lumbia Golf, Pueblo Golf and Country Club, Alabang Golf and Country Club, Pearl Kai Hawaii, Britannika Golf, Team IMG (Tagaytay Midlands), Standford Golf, Engineers and Architects Golf and Western Social Golf.
