THE 6TH Infantry (Kampilan) Division, and Joint Task Force Central have committed to securing the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE), and the first-ever Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections.
During the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) Meeting at Camp Siongco, Major General Antonio G. Nafarrete PA, commander of the 6ID and JTFC, said they are calibrating the security plan for the two significant events.
For instance, the Armed Forces of the Philippines is working closely with the Philippine National Police and the Commission on Elections to conduct risk assessments.
The division commander said they will also conduct community engagement activities to encourage public participation for an orderly and peaceful election process.
“Our primary focus is to ensure the safety and integrity of the 2025 elections, especially as BARMM holds its first parliamentary elections. The AFP remains committed to being apolitical and upholding a peaceful and credible electoral process in the region,” he said.
Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia attended the meeting and he expressed confidence in the ability of the AFP and PNP to ensure smooth and peaceful elections in the BARMM area.
Other key officials in attendance included PNP PRO-BAR regional director PBGen. Romeo Macapaz; Col. Sultan Salman Sapal, Maguindanao del Norte Police provincial director; Comelec BARMM regional director Atty. Ray Sumalipao; and 6ID chief of staff Col. Edgar L. Catu.
It was also noted that Nov. 4, 2024, marked the first day for the filing of certificates of candidacy for the BARMM parliamentary elections, with the filing period set to close on Nov. 9, 2024.
