APPLICANTS queued early at the Department of Labor and Employment-initiated job fair at SM City Ecoland on May 1 to mark the 121st Labor Day celebration. As of 3:30 p.m., 71 were hired on the spot, 28 were males, while 43 were females.
DOLE XI regional employment focal person Ryan D. Roldan Sr. said that as of 8 a.m., they had already registered 1,464 applicants. Each applicant applied for three jobs on average, resulting in 5,900 applications.
Ten overseas employers and 46 local companies participated in the jobs fair, organized with the help of the Department of Migrant Workers, Public Employment Service Office, and SM management.
Some 3,000 jobs were available, both for overseas and local employment, from 46 participating companies.
“Gi-invite nato tanan employers para diri na sila mag interview sa isa ka area, dali pud ta makakuha ug hiring (We invited all employers to conduct interviews in one area to make the hiring process easy),” Roldan said.
According to DOLE XI data, Davao Region’s jobless rate decreased to 4.5% in January 2023 against 4.8% in January 2022.
“Sa mga jobseekers, dili lang mahadlok mag apply kay mao nay common problem nganong walay trabaho (For the jobseekers, do not be afraid to apply since this is the common problem that leads to joblessness),” he added.
