The city government has rolled out food rationing to 50,000 families whose livelihoods have been affected due to the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The City Information Office (CIO) said that these food rations have been distributed to those who have been affected by the restrictive measures adopted to prevent the spread of the virus.
The distribution of goods already started yesterday, March 23, and will run to March 27. The CIO said that among those who received were indigents, the “no work, no pay” workers, the self-employed and those out of work individuals due to the slowing down of businesses in the city.
To avail of the relief goods, they must show their ration cards, earlier distributed through the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) and the barangay leaders.
Mayor Sara Duterte, however, reminded the beneficiaries to observe social distancing. She said there is a system to ensure the smooth process of distribution.
“Barangay captains distributing the ration cards are monitored by team leaders – Davao City Vice Mayor and the councilors to ensure that the rationing is properly implemented properly, manage the issues in the barangays, and social distancing is practiced,” she said.
Duterte has also called on the private sectors to funnel through the city government any relief goods they want to donate. “Private sectors are not allowed to give any relief goods directly to the people, because this will create chaos, this will be disorganized, and this will cause people to mass gather,” she said.
