337 nabbed in intensified traffic ops

The Davao City Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT) apprehended 337 motorists in its first two days of operation.

After the launching of I-ACT last Feb. 26, agents began operating along MacArthur Highway and Quimpo Boulevard.

Based on the report from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) XI, City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) chief Dionisio Abude yesterday said most of those who were apprehended were caught violating traffic laws. At least 140 were apprehended for violating Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

Abude said 78 motorists were apprehended for not wearing the standard protective motorcycle helmet, 63 motorists for not wearing the prescribed seat belts, nine motorists for driving motorcycle on public roads with a child on board, and three motorists for using mobile phones while driving.

He added that 18 others were arrested for violating the anti-overloading policy.

Abude said 26 vehicles were impounded for violating the emission standard under Philippine Clean Air Act.

In its own separate operation, Abude said CTTMO recorded 54 apprehensions for violations of various traffic laws and regulations.

“This a simultaneous operation with Task Force Davao, Davao City Police Office, LTO, LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board), DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) and CTTMO,” Abude said. He said the Philippine Coast Guard is also involved in the operation.
