THE CITY Sports and Development Division confirmed that 32 athletes competing at the IRONMAN 70.3 event later this month have already arrived in Davao City.
According to CSDD head Mikey Aportadera, the athletes are staying at the hotels the organizers prepared for them.
Aportadera also clarified that not all athletes accepted the organizers’ offer. Reportedly, the prepared accommodation was far from the venue, so they opted to book the hotel on their own.
He also said they work closely with the Public Safety and Security Office, City Transport and Traffic Management Office, and the Davao City Police Office for crowd control and the smooth flow of vehicles.
For instance, the city will install barriers to ensure the safety of both the triathletes and the spectators.
Lastly, Aportadera said they also tapped the City Veterinarian’s Office to secure the stray dogs that might endanger the participants.
